Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility

Montero Mining and Exploration Ltd. (Montero) acknowledges that mining is a non-renewable activity, however, we are committed to making a positive contribution to the communities in which we operate, practising in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. We intend to make a meaningful impact on the people in the regions in which we operate at both an economic and social level, supporting upliftment programs based on a thorough understanding of local needs. We understand that mining companies can, and do, have an impact on the environment and agree to undertake best practices to mitigate our impact on the environment.

Montero is committed to adhering to best environmental practices, minimizing impact to the local communities while participating in programs to benefit the communities beyond the life of the mine, implementing and maintaining excellent standards of health and safety, implementing appropriate risk management systems, and ensuring we operate a workplace environment whereby human rights and respect therefore are upheld.

While operating in Tanzania and as part of our commitment to local communities Montero shipped 160 field rubber-tired wheelchairs to the country. These were distributed in Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and Morogoro region, where Montero operated its then Wigu Hill rare earth exploration project. 85 wheelchairs were distributed to children living with disabilities, 30 distributed in Zanzibar, 55 in Dar es Salaam, with the remainder in the Morogoro region.

The chairs are an improved design on the conventional wheelchair and have better manoeuvrability and are fully adjustable so can be fitted to each child’s size and needs, therefore improving the quality of life for the children and their parents and guardians.
